I have been a consultant in paediatric haematology in Addenbrooke's since 2004. I am responsible for the care of children with malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions, accepting referrals from the East of England region. I am principal investigator for a number of national leukaemia trials, and coinvestigator for trials of new haemophilia factor concentrates in paediatric haemophilia patients.
I have one non-malignant haematology clinic per week as we are a regional referral unit for children with haemoglobinopathies, and run a Transcranial Doppler (TCD) service in conjunction with North Middlesex Sickle cell service. I also link in closely with the regional antenatal and neonatal haemoglobinopathy screening service.
Children with bleeding and thrombotic disorders are also seen in our haemophilia centre, which has specialist paediatric clinics once per month. I have a particular interest in safeguarding children and work closely with the general paediatricians in interpretation of coagulation investigations in children presenting with bruising.
